TAKBlog has to get a server!

TAKBlog is another blogging tool which is done by Iranian for Iranian. Their problem now is this: a USA host is making trouble for them because of Iran, USA relation issues. I wish their problem to be solved as soon as possible. I remember what this GoDaddy did toward us two years ago around domain names! Let's praise not to see aliparvaresh.com not to be taken out one day by someone else!

You forced!?

This Iranian IT website has posted a news around Trillian blocked by Yahoo! Though the problem has been solved by respectful Trillian team the day before yesterday. Are you forced to post a news everyday!?

Google File System

"First, component failures are the norm rather than the exception. The ?le system consists of hundreds or even thousands of storage machines built from inexpensive commodity parts and is accessed by a comparable number of client machines. The quantity and quality of the components virtually guarantee that some are not functional at any given time and some will not recover from their current failures. We have seen problems caused by application bugs, operating system bugs, human errors, and the failures of disks, memory, connectors, networking, and power supplies. Therefore, constant monitoring, error detection, fault tolerance, and automatic recovery must be integral to the system." PDF File. Via Boing Boing.

"Google is the king of search. There, I said it. It's good to be king, but, as Netscape learned, it's often hard to stay king. Microsoft is making rumblings it intends to launch its own search engine and join this battle. Google and Yahoo! should be concerned." Read More . . . Via Nick Bradbury.

National OS for Iran!

You know, these guys are going to use Linux as a base for Iran OS because they say if we join WTO, we have to pay for other countires softwares. For sure we have to pay, but what I don't understand it the usage of a national OS! They can easily download a kind of BSD or Linux and enjoy their time, then what can be the usage of a national OS? They say because Windows is not secure, we going to have a national OS which will be more secure. Let me tell you one thing, we haven't even released a good software which can be useful for all Iranian users, then what are we talking about!? I will talk about this topic more later in detail.

Iran Linux Small Seminar

It was held yesterday in Tehran university and I attended there for a minute only because I had to leave there soon. But do you think that we need a Farsi Linux? I don't think so. Since as you might have experienced reading horrible translated books, understanding them is time consuming and you should again learn what their real English expression was so you can understand and learn other materials from the 'net. Go and learn the English instead of wasting your time on a Farsi Linux.

What do you do?!

What do you do when you have been away for a week and have not read many things that you should have read? I simply checked all previous ones as read, and started reading new ones from today. I am back!

Goodbye PC; hello PS (Personal Server)

"Intel's vision of the future of mobile computing is a hard drive with built in wireless. That, at least, is the concept the company chose to present to journalists at its Developer Forum, this week. The idea is simple: what makes any computer unique is the data held upon it, so all people should need to carry with them is that information. And while storage densities continue to grow exponentially, soon folk will have a lot of information to carry around." Read More . . .

Iranian Bloggers Union

According to Mehr News, an Iranian news agency, Iranian bloggers are seeking to establish a union for supporting them. A dentist blogger, in interview with Mehr News, says, we need more support from authorities for establishing a union. Another blogger who seems a computer engineering student claims that, after his blog has been hacked, he has gone crazy! He says we shouldn't let blogs to be restricted.

I hope someone starts establishing such a union so Iranian bloggers, specially Farsi bloggers which are far more than Iranian English bloggers, get more support.

AXBlog . com

AXBolg is another successful project by Hamed Banaei. It is a blog in which its members post their pictures which are taken by cameras in Iran. He uses an small code which was used for Second News for image compression and image cropping/resizing before (It will come up soon, am I right Hamed?). I hope he improves it more (Specially an RSS feed which its description and image source would be included) and also add a possible solution to enter an small English description of the pictures so it can be useful for others too. We need more real content from Iran specially in English. I was waiting for a change in it's design so it doesn't kill your appetite! Previous one was horrible, that's why I talked about it a bit late. Congratulation Hamed.

Guess Gender

It should be possible using simple probability functions, but they should make it more accurate, their sampling data are not enough I think, because 80% of the times, it guesses right and thats not much, approximately 92% will be great. Via MetaFilter.

Blaster Conference

In response to security issues in recent weeks, Microsoft executives Mike Nash, corporate vice president of the Security Business Unit, and David Treadwell, general manager of the .NET Developer Platforms Group, conducted a series of conference calls with customers worldwide to provide an overview of the Blaster virus and Microsoft's response to the attack, a technical description of the vulnerability and its patch, and a discussion of what customers may expect from Microsoft moving forward. The complete audio and text transcript of one of these conference calls is available here.

Possible alternative for SMTP?

I never thought SMTP could be replaced, but seems everything can be changed. I think AMTP can reduce number of spammers! Other than new ways of spamming... Recently I get some banners via my Y! Messenger. Funny!

"AMTP was published as an Internet Draft last week. It suggests using a 'Mail Policy Code' during the transaction to identify what kind of mail is being sent (administrative, personal, commercial, etc). Another plus is the use of TLS using x.509 certificates signed by a CA so you know exactly where the mail came from. Sounds like a solid plan...now to get a certificate signed for a decent price is the challenge." Read More . . .
