Hehe, now Google founders got a blog! See what they say: "I've wanted to do a blog for ages but Sergey couldn't manage to set up MovableType. Apparently it's "Just too difficult". Anyway, the other day he suggested that it would be a thousand times easier to just buy Blogger.com. So we did."

Not Bad for the First Time

Well, I attended First Iran International Web Festival today and payed a 1.5 hours visit. It was not what I expected to be, but not bad for the first time, and there were many troubles for companies which participated including Internet connection and ever lack of power. Anyway, here is Iran and these things are regular. Also attendance of companies was not good at all. The best section of the web festival was attendance of bloggers which was very good.
I saw many of my old friends and got happy talking to some new ones. Most of them are bloggers. Including but not only, Hamed(and his cousin), Mr. Taheri, Ehsani.org, Arashy.com and Tur2.com, iDevCenter and others I can't remember, sorry if I have missed anyone.
Also known companies which attended there were TAKGroup, Mizban, irCyberSpace, IRIB and Dibagaran.
I will write more on it if anything was missed. Don't forget, I am the first who is blogging about it!

Microsoft Retires Netmeeting

InfoWorld: "SAN FRANCISCO - Microsoft is retiring its six-year-old NetMeeting online conferencing application and instead will push Office Live Meeting, formerly known as PlaceWare, for online meetings. "
The old days we have in RDC, Rayane Doostan Computer. Do you remember? It was nice, an small intranet, actually it was only two modems per each desktop computer and around 7-8 phone lines, with lots of good friends, we had NetMeeting, IRC, NNTP all back in those days, around 6-7 years ago. Gives you 1996-7.

Daei one Goal Away from National Scoring Record

Football Asia: "TEHRAN - IRAN skipper Ali Daei scored his 83rd goal for the Iranian National team in Beirut to place himself just behind Ferenc Puskas, the Hungarian football legend and the current best scorer in the history of football with 84 goals."

November's Joke

And now, our respectful professor, Dr. Jalali, has said: "Every Iranian, should got his own web site". That's very good. So Iran Telecommunication Corporation starts filtering them all and block those they just don't like. Isn't that right Dr. Jalali? More on Hamed's blog and FarsTec's blog.

Blogs are Dying?!

Are blogs dying? Dan Gillmor is pointing us into these articles: 1, 2, 3. And I saw a great comment on PCMag article, imafish writes: "I never understood the difference between blogs and those awful personal webpages from the 90s."
Do you remember how web looked like in 1996-7? I remember! Do you have any web page saved from those old days? I designed some, but don't have them around, it was all frames!

More on MSN Newsbot

As I said, this is not Microsoft itself, it is moreover and Microsoft which forms MSN Newsbot.
"WASHINGTON (AFX) -- Microsoft is making strides is building a powerful rival to compete with Google. In an important step in that direction, Microsoft has teamed up with San Francisco-based Moreover Technologies to develop a continuously updating on the Web, according to the publisher of a newsletter about the search engine business." News Images

Google News, MSN Newsbot and now News Images are good news aggregators. Like Second News! News Images is actually an image news aggregator in which you can take a look at news using images. We are going to make such thing for Second News, though we will be showing headline of the news as the alt of image. No time, much work.
Long live aggregators!

Why Not Yes, No Instead of OK, Cancel

Raymond Chen, is pointing to an important thing. We always have to try putting buttons that match the question. I never read the questions completely unless I see it unfamiliar, then in the answer of: "Do you want to restart now?...OK, Cancel", I can't usually make decision fast. Please choose correct ones.

Google Censorship

"Google Censorship I discovered it while trying to search "kazaalite" in Google. Try it yourself. The result is interesting." Via Geek Style.

MSN Newsbot

And now... MSN Newsbot! From their website:
"MSN Newsbot (beta) is an experimental, automated news service. We gather news from over 4,000 sources on the internet and speed your discovery of news stories. News headlines are clustered together to allow you to compare coverage from multiple sources and each story links to the publisher's site where you can read the full article."
I think they are using moreover as their partner as they have said in their About page. And all the crawls are actually done by moreover in my opinion. Also one weak point on it, they only use Reuters pictures, I can't see pictures from any other news resource, but one the other hand, they are able to cluster news which is very nice. Availble editions are UK, France, Spain and Italy.
Hehe, Microsoft might think that they are the first .NET news aggregator, but they are not, since Second News have been before them. Second News is purely based on .NET and uses technologies such as, Windows Applications, Windows Services, Web Applications and lastly Web Services. Via Buzz Machine.

Weblog Spam, Blam Project

Blogs are Updated Every 0.86 Seconds

Boing Boing from Technorati: "In March of this year, when we switched over to a 5 server cluster, we were keeping up with about 4,000-5,000 new weblogs each day. Right now, we're adding 8,000-9,000 new weblogs every day, not counting the 1.2 Million weblogs we already are tracking. That means that on average, a brand new weblog is created every 11 seconds. We're also seeing about 100,000 weblogs update every day as well, which means that on average, a weblog is updated every 0.86 seconds."

Copyright Troubles!

Hmm, I was surfing some weblogs today morning, and checked Iran W3School. He had a link to Iran-IT.net web site in which they present Farsi news around IT. And I saw a familiar article on their first page, What is ADSL! One of my oldest articles which I think I wrote one year ago. I got happy for the reason that my articles are still useful for Iran IT community but I suddenly noticed they have not even written down my name as the author. That's not fair... Please respect copy right laws at least toward things that don't make you pay money! Did I ask for money!? Compare these two yourself. 1, 2.
Seems FarsTec is suffering same thing with a newspaper called Abrar. What can I say to a web site when newspapers aren't respecting rules?

More About Second News

First of all, special thanks to Tur2 and Keyvan Nayyeri for their kind words toward us about Second News.
Let me explain a bit his questions. Second News does not use any RSS feed even if the target site provides. It only uses the regular web pages and nothing more. And about it's speed. Right now it is working too fast and we are working more and more on it to make it better using improved computer algorithms. And also it does not update when a user refreshes it's page, it updates during specified intervals. And also Second News brings pictures for every single headline news which got a picture on it's main source and also 3 line of news body so you get what they news is on.
I hope this makes you more clear, if you got more questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Yahoo! Won't Waste It's Time in Iran

Yea, of course they won't be giving even time for Iran. Take a look at article on IRNA.
Let me tell you something, I contacted one of Iranians who is in contact with Google in US, and we tried to activate Google.ir, just we told that we will register it and we will give the domain name to them just they use it for Farsi search and things like that. We have been still waiting without any reply!

PLEASE make one for yourself so we can read web sites easier and easier using aggregators. Thanks in advance!

Art and Mathematics

Mathematics, as much as music or any other art, is one of the means by which we rise to a complete self-consciousness. The significance of mathematics resides precisely in the fact that it is an art; by informing us of the nature of our own minds it informs us of much that depends on our minds. RTL and LTR in RSS?

I am wondering if there is anyway to let aggregators know which RSS should be loaded Right-To-Left like my mother language, Farsi, and which RSS to be loaded Left-To-Right. It might be possible for RTL languages to add HTML tags somehow in their RSS so that body text of their post would be read RTL in any aggregator, but what about the subject? I think most aggregators remove HTML tags of subject.
Do you know any aggregator which supports RTL? So that you can modify an RSS and force the aggregator to load it automatically RTL.

A Blog Service is Blocked by an ISP

Now, things are becoming too funny.
According to ITIran, the biggest free persian blogging service, PersianBlog, has blocked access of the biggest Iranian ISP's, ParsOnline, users to it's website and ParsOnline has blocked PersianBlog's website in return. Too funny, nah? I was ParsOnline's user for a long time, maybe 2 years, and after the same thing happened 4 months ago, I left them for ever.

The Shape of Weblog Software

Scripting News writes on future of weblog software:
"Weblog software is going to be like mail servers. Lots of ways to deploy, every niche filled. For the masses, services like Yahoo, MSN and AOL. Blogging servers for corporations, inside and outside of the firewall. For schools, for the military, specialized systems for lawyers, librarians, professors, reporters, magazines, daily newspapers. The next President will have a blog. Writing for the Web, the prevailing form of publishing in the early 21st Century, will come in many sizes and shapes, flavors and styles. It won't be one-size-fits-all. Open formats and protocols will make this possible. I'd bet on the formats and protocols we're using now, RSS 2.0, OPML and the Blogger API."

Blogging is So Serious in Iran

Yea, it is too serious because some Iranian bloggers are going to have a pavilion at Tehran International Web, Wap and E-Publications Festival. Some of the bloggers had a meeting last night at a coffee shop last night, including Hamed.
But can someone let us know what you bloggers going to do there?

Now Microsoft Knows How Hamed Loves Them!

Hehe, I was talking to Scoble last night while he was at office, and we talked about everything including Hamed! And I told him that Hamed is a real Microsoft Lover. Now Scoble has talked about him on his own weblog.
"One neat thing about working for Microsoft is that you get to meet all sorts of cool geeks from all over the world. Today I was introduced to Hamed Banaei who writes his blog from Tehran, Iran. His friend Ali tells me that Hamed had the first .NET-oriented blog in Iran and that he loves Microsoft so much that he downloaded all the PDC videos on his modem. Now that's dedication! Not to mention, isn't looking at the PDC videos banned in Iran? My wife tells me that looking at Aero and Avalon is a crime in Iran. Or so she heard. Though I don't use NewsGator myself, but Greg Reinacker is using his logic to show us:

Red Hat Cans Linux Distribution

The actuall Linux leader, Red Hat, is going to change his way.
EWeek: "Leading Linux distributor Red Hat Inc. on Monday made clear its intention to focus on the enterprise space, telling customers that it will no longer be maintaining or releasing any of the its Red Hat Linux line after the end of April 2004."
Does it smell well to the open source lovers? I don't think so.

Now IRC is Google's Target

According to Google Weblog, Google will be sending bots to IRC rooms to index them. I can imagine that many IRC rooms will be blocking Google's IP address as soon as they know what it is. I don't know why Google wants to know everything all over the world? Will Google index our home one day?

How to Download PDC Sessions!

Are you tired of using "Save target as..."?
Get here and use the application Robert McLaws has coded to download them all with ease.

Credit Card in Iran!

Hehe, these people are so funny.
They are talk about giving out credit cards in Iran, so when I am going to pay on the 'net, my connection suddenly gets lost either because of wonderful backbones (!) or our phone lines which may be disconnected without any regular reason, and the money which I was going to pay only reduces from my credit card and I don't get what I wanted and make me to repay!
For sure it can be successful, but please first make your connection stable, and then...
I know that they are not talking about credit cards for 'net usage, but sure they are to do this as well.

DotNetRocks @ MSDN

It is on MSDN now. Here it is.

We should ask government before InterNIC!

With all the respect to my blog readers, but please let me know what you think fo the story I talk on today!
Those who can read Farsi, please go to here. And the rest follow me:
Our respectful government has asked us to get a license before establishing a new web site, and if we don't, our web site will be blocked! Doesn't matter what it includes, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and all of those who haven't get any license yet, please be fast! If you don't get license from our government, you will be missing this little amount of visitors from inside of Iran becasue you will be blocked. And also InterNIC, pay attention, please be sure that have got our license before registering a domain from Iran.
More you can find about this story on: ITIran, Sector Zero, Hamed Banaei
Though they have denied it after some hours, but I remember this very clearly that they asked for getting license some months back.
