Iran Warns 'Gulf' in Persian

TEHRAN - Anyone who thinks that stretch of water between Iran and the Arabian peninsula is called the "Arabian Gulf" or simply the "Gulf" should think again, with Iranian authorities stepping up their campaign to keep it well and truly "Persian". In the latest twist of the long simmering spat, the prestigious US publication National Geographic has been banned from sale and barred from sending reporters to Iran after it decided to print the words "Arabian Gulf" in an atlas. The Iranian culture ministry's head of foreign press affairs, Mohammad Hossein Khoshvaght, said the ban would stay in place until National Geographic "corrects its error". "We have asked the foreign ministry to make a complaint. We will not accept the use of the false term 'Arabian Gulf', which is contrary to United Nations documents. We will act against any media using this term," he warned. "We will defend the historic identity of the Persian Gulf. We will not accept any distortion and will take legal measures," said government spokesman Abdollah Ramazanzadeh at his weekly press conference. Top national security official Hassan Rowhani has also added his voice to the uproar, and the national press has carried a petition that emphasises the time honoured international standard is the "Persian Gulf" and nothing else. In addition to its sin, National Geographic's map also referred to three islands - Abu Mussa and Greater and Lesser Tomb - as "islands occupied by Iran and claimed by the United Arab Emirates". Iran has controlled the islands since 1971. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has backed the UAE's claim for the islands, but Iran insists they are an integral part of its territory. Tehran also insists on referring to the Arab grouping as the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC).

Persian Guld will Remain Persian

To: National Geographic Society
Dear National Geographic Editors,
We the undersigned, through this letter, protest your irresponsible and unscientific actions.
This letter is in concern of publication of a map by your organization, which, according to all international organizations, is fraudulent and distorted, and its publication guarantees the violation of undeniable international legal rights.
It is a proven scholarly fact that the name of the Persian Gulf is a genuine name, with historical roots, and using any fraudulent names such as the “Arabian Gulf”, and islands “Occupied by Iran” is in fact inducing political animosity.
We did not expect National Geographic, as a prestigious international scientific institution, to ignore the proven obvious, and damage its own reputation on the basis of political intentions, and thus create an atmosphere of public mistrust in its content, and hurt the national pride of the millions of Persian speakers while doing so.
While announcing our disgust at such a heresy, we demand an immediate editorial review and correction of this publication by the National Geographic.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned

Europeans Say Iran Agrees to Freeze Uranium Enrichment

PARIS, Nov. 15 - France, Britain and Germany announced Monday that they had reached a formal agreement with Iran committing the country to freeze a critical part of its nuclear program in exchange for an array of possible rewards. Under the complex but limited agreement, intended to prevent Iran from developing nuclear bombs, Tehran has agreed to suspend all of its uranium enrichment and reprocessing activities while it negotiates the benefits it is to receive.

Our National OS: Linux!

Alireza Tavakkoli, don't ask me who he is since I don't know, in an interview with ILNA has announced that Iran's national OS is Linux.
This is their decision, but they could at least name the distribution they are working on it and call that distribution in their announcment.
In my humble opinion, saying: "Our National OS is Linux" is so funny.

SmapBayes v1.0 Released

The SpamBayes project is working on developing a Bayesian anti-spam filter, initially based on the work of Paul Graham. The major difference between this and other, similar projects is the emphasis on testing newer approaches to scoring messages. While most anti-spam projects are still working with the original graham algorithm, we found that a number of alternate methods yielded a more useful response. This is documented on the background page. Via Lockergnome.
For those who are interested in Mathematics, base of SmapBayes should be an algorithm called "Naive Bayes" which is used for classification of data for some pre-defined categories.

How to Database with VS.NET!

Database projects are special types of Visual Studio.NET projects which help you create and manage SQL database scripts. The Visual Database tools allow you to view, design, modify, and test database objects (for example, tables, views, queries, stored procedures, and so on) without having to jump from the Visual Studio environment to a different toolset. This chapter shows how to use some of the Visual Database tools in a VS.NET database project. Via David Christiansen.
I have been using this feature since beginning and it has helped me a lot specially in keeping SQL Scripts up to dated near my project files without any confusion.

U.S. May Use Iraq Meeting to Engage Iran

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Secretary of State Colin Powell may use a conference on Iraq later this month as an opportunity to engage directly with Iran, officials said on Friday, despite a looming nuclear crisis. While insisting "nothing at this moment is planned," one senior official told Reuters "there may be opportunities" for Powell to speak about U.S. concerns "more directly" than just in the conference's general meeting, set for Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt's Red sea resort, on Nov. 22 and 23.

Testing ASP.NET 2.0 and Visual Web Developer

Several people have asked for additional testing details after my recent Whidbey Update post where I talked a little about how we are building ASP.NET 2.0 and Visual Web Developer. Some specific questions I’ve been asked include: How do you build and track 105,000 test cases and 505,000 test scenarios? How big is the test team in relation to the dev team? What tools do we use to write and run them? What is the process used to manage all of this? Etc, Etc. Hopefully the below post provide some answers. Read More . . .

Integrating PayPal with a .NET Application

E-Commerce applications require mechanisms for payment. Although more commonly than not e-Commerce sites will use full credit card processing gateways, giving PayPal as an additional option of payment provides additional payment options for your customers, especially those that don’t want to pay by credit card over the Internet. If you run a Web shop that uses direct credit card processing and want to integrate PayPal seamlessly, you’ll find that using PayPal as a processing service is not as straight forward as using a payment gateway. In this article I describe how you can minimize the external PayPal interaction and work the PayPal payment into the order processing workflow to provide a seamless interface using ASP.NET and C#. However, the principles used here should be applicable to any Web programming environment. Via Jason N. Gaylord.
