Recession Impact on Microsoft: 17% Lay off

According to sources, Microsoft is going to lay off around 17% of it's employees (15,000) mostly in Europe-Middle East-Africa in the middle of January, 2009.

I am suprised that the total number of microsoft employees is only 90,000. The 15,000 layoffs oversees must affect the companies ability to resume its normal international operations.
The <a href="http://www.ukrecession.co.uk/"target="_blank">UK recession although bad, should not stop microsoft from carrying out its normal operations in the united kingdom.
